My Love Affair with Micellar Water (and how it kickstarted my skincare routine)
For years, my girlfriends have hounded me about having a less-than-acceptable skincare routine. In fact, I can probably count on one hand how many times I've taken my makeup off before bed in the last year. (I know, this is horrible for your skin).
But it changed when I stumbled upon Micellar Water.
Because I tend to fall behind on what beauty products are new and amazing, I love getting the Amazon and Target Beauty Boxes. They're always full of trial-sized products that I may not try otherwise. Last spring, I got both boxes and they both had different brands of micellar water. Usually these boxes are so different and have a wide variety of options, which is why I love them. But I knew something was up when they both contained this miracle water.
Clearly skeptical at first, thinking how can this water basically be a 3-in-1 beauty basic? It didn't have the consistency of liquid makeup removers, so I started doing some low-level research on why this product was taking the beauty scene by storm.
Micellar water is made up of micelles - tiny cleansing oil molecules - that work to extract the impurities and dirt from your skin's pores. The simple version? Micelles are like dirt magnets. And because the micelles are in a softened water, it won't dry out your skin. This means micellar water truly does work as a 3-in-1 facial cleanser, makeup remover, and moisturizer.
Unlike makeup remover, micellar water doesn't leave behind any greasy-feeling residue, but leaves your face feeling moisturized and fresh (another benefit!).
Again, unsure of how well it actually worked, I first just tried it to remove my stubborn eye makeup. I soaked a cotton pad and wiped it over my eyes a few times, and voila! It was off! No black streaks down my face. Wanting to see the full benefits and wanting to see what all the hype was about, I decided to give it a 2 week trial.
For 2 weeks, I used Garnier Micellar water twice a day - morning and night. At night, I really used it to take my makeup off but in the morning, I used it more as a toner and moisturizer. Plus, as a mom, I don't have time for 4 or 5 different solutions or creams before bed or before my makeup - I need a quick solution, and that's exactly what Micellar water proved to be.
The difference it made in my skin and appearance was incredible. Because it doesn't leave a greasy residue, my skin was soft and smooth - a perfect foundation for makeup. I found that I didn't need to use a hydrating primer because it Micellar water worked well enough (which is HUGE for me... I love primers!)
I was blown away by the results, and it doesn't take time out of my usual routine. So what started as a fun little trial turned into the first steps of a regular, daily skincare routine that I'm pretty proud of.
I'm starting to see my skin age, and while I'm not that old, I want to prevent it from getting wrinkly and dull and keep it smooth and bright. Not only am I using Micellar water, but I incorporated some more heavy-duty skincare products - cleansers, exfoliants, masks, and serums - to help the anti-aging process. I've considered using Collagen supplements to help my hair, skin, and nails, but I'm a bit unsure! Baby steps...
Does anyone use Collagen? Do you love it, and can you see a difference?! I'd love to know more!
