Spooky Spider Cookies

When it comes to fall entertaining, I always think it’s the little touches that make things feel festive and fun. Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party, putting together treats for the kids, or just want to make an ordinary afternoon feel special, these Spider Cookies are the perfect project. They’re playful, a little whimsical, and best of all—they couldn’t be easier. How fabulous is that?

What I love most is that you don’t have to bake anything from scratch (unless you want to!). You can use your favorite chocolate chip cookies—store-bought or homemade—and then just dress them up with peanut butter cups, melted chocolate, and candy eyes. Suddenly, a simple cookie becomes the most adorable spider you’ve ever seen. It’s one of those treats that looks like you’ve gone to so much effort, but in reality, you can put together a whole tray in just minutes.

Key notes

  • Build these on store-bought cookies for an easier, quicker prep time – even peanut butter cookies would be delicious
  • Have the kids help if you want to set up cookie decorating stations
  • If you use homemade cookies, make them a day before so they’re cooled

And let me tell you, children absolutely light up when they see them. I’ve made them for neighborhood gatherings, and even the grown-ups can’t help but smile. They’re charming, a little spooky, and just the right amount of sweet.

Ingredients

  • Chocolate chip cookies (homemade or store-bought)
  • Mini peanut butter cups
  • ½ cup chocolate candy melts
  • Candy eyes

Directions

  1. Melt the chocolate candy melts according to package directions and pour into a piping bag (a resealable bag with the corner snipped works just fine, too).
  2. Pipe little spider legs around the edges of each cookie.
  3. Place a peanut butter cup upside down in the center of each cookie to make the spider’s body.
  4. Use a tiny dot of melted chocolate to “glue” on the candy eyes.
  5. Allow the chocolate to set for a few minutes—and enjoy!

These Spider Cookies are proof that entertaining doesn’t always need to be complicated. With just a few ingredients and a little creativity, you can bring joy and laughter to your table. I love serving them on a big platter for Halloween parties, tucked alongside bowls of candy corn and apple cider. They also make a wonderful project to do with children—because half the fun is in the decorating.

At the end of the day, it’s about creating those little moments that make people smile. And if you ask me, cookies that look like spiders are just the kind of treat that everyone will remember. Now, that’s my idea of a good thing.
