For the Bread
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup butter softened
For the Topping
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
Activate the Yeast
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, condensed milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, until it begins to look slightly foamy.
Mix the Dough
Add the egg, flour, and salt to the bowl. Stir until a rough dough forms.
Add the softened butter and mix until the dough comes together.
First Rise
Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel.
Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Make the Topping
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter and condensed milk.
Brush the mixture over the warm loaves immediately after baking. This gives the bread a soft, glossy finish and adds a gentle sweetness.
Let the bread cool slightly before slicing.
